Electric vs manual choke carb

 · I just removed a carburetor with an electric choke to install one with a manual. The car is now driveable cold where before it was not. This engine is not the normal street engine, and others experiences may differ. I happen to prefer manual chokes, manual brakes, manual steering, and manual transmissions. My opinion, others will differ.  · Depends what you want. Electrics are automatic, but they do kick in even if the car doesn't need it. The choke housing cools off faster than the engine itself. Manual's good since you (should) know exactly when the car needs more or less choke. But then leaving it on can waste a good amount of gas. I have manual and only use it at www.doorway.ru Interaction Count:  · I will never run an electric choke again if I can avoid it. The problem with everything except a manual choke or EFI is that different weather conditions will make the choke performe differently. with a manual choke you can adjust according to your needs at the www.doorway.ru Interaction Count:

Modifying to manual choke is an alternative. Have started the car 2 times after the headers and and dual exhaust system was installed, but the engine was very difficult to start. Had to push the gas pedal times and the engine hesitates a lot from idle to higher RPM. Cold weather, summer petrol and defect choke could be the reason. Tech: Install An Electric Choke On Your Manual Carb By PPN Editor J In this age of electronics and bolt-on fuel injection, it still isn't unheard of to run across an older vehicle-especially one built for performance-that still has a manual choke. I would get the electric choke. My electric choke Carter (same as Edelbrock) performed much better than the Holley I replaced. You could look into getting the manual choke carb and converting it to electric or retuning the electric choke model. MustangChuck.

If you don’t mind the cable running through the fire wall, that’s fine for you. I wouldn’t drill a hole for it though. Thats me. Advantage of electric (automatic) choke is no operator input required. Disadvantage is they can malfuction. Advantage of manual choke is cheap, simple, operator adjustable. You can take out the choke just as soon as driveability permits and save gas and pollution. Disadvantage of manual choke is that it requires just a little bit of knowledge and attention on the driver's part which is more than most people can or would like to manage.
